Marketing is constantly growing and evolving because of new technologies impact. This constant growth means that digital marketing has become a fast-paced career for young individuals.
In an era where internet usage is exponentially increasing, and with people using it for just about anything in their daily lives – including shopping online, researching, and browsing social media – Digital Marketing has never been more enticing of a profession to invest in & building a career.
The CIM shows that three-fifths (60%) of young people consider marketing a potential career choice. They cite pay (37%), career progression (33%), creativity (28%), and transferrable skills (25%) as the key attractions.
Thirty-six percent see marketing as an ideal profession because it provides more financial stability than other options. In comparison, just sixteen percent believe it’s less safe due to economic instability, and thirty percent would not want their children pursuing this line of work. In contrast, twenty-five percent feel that marketing has been known for stressful jobs with poor mental health benefits, and nineteen percent think it offers little flexibility regarding work hours and schedule.
Despite its sometimes controversial reputation, the marketing industry is well-known for being resilient to societal trends and economic fluctuations. Regardless of concerns about how the sector will fare in today’s ever-changing world, parents and kids see it as a stable profession where they can earn money while still being passionate about it.
This new trend shows an increasing need for young people to build careers within this industry. It is a hopeful time for those studying related marketing, communications, advertising, business, or PR degrees; this could help them gain the skills needed to be successful in the ever-changing digital age. They are not alone, though – people without these degrees can also thrive in this industry.
Digital services, including social media management, content marketing, and SEO, are increasing in popularity. This means that students of English, Graphic Design, Maths, IT, Journalism, or Multimedia have the opportunity to specialize their skills for this specific industry by specializing in one or two disciplines within digital marketing.
Perks Of Being A Digital Native
Most digital marketing roles require a high degree of technical skill. Digital Natives – those born in the digital era – are advantaged due to their innate technological savvy, which gives them an edge when it comes to finding a job in the field due to some of the fundamental skills that many grew up around this type of technology already possess.
For instance, Instagram became famous in 2012 when its user base rose dramatically, and Facebook purchased the company for 1 billion dollars. Henceforth, children and young adults haven’t been able to experience life without Instagram. When choosing something to post on their feed, many people now spend more time than before poring over their grids, captions, and posting frequency. If you’re naturally interested in the artistry behind your Instagram feed – if it’s easy for you to work with new software – then social media marketing might be the perfect career choice!
